Ashta Lakshmi Temple ~ Chennai

On the 23 December 2012 the BNP tour group visited the Ashtalakshmi Kovil / Temple, situated in Besant Nagar , Chennai.

This temple was constructed in 1974 and is one of the very few temples solely dedicated to Mother Lakshmi and her various forms. The name Ashtalakshmi was given to this temple as it depicts the Eight "Faces" or Manifestations of the Goddess Lakshmi. The Eight Goddesses are AdhiLakshmi, DhanaLakshmi, DhanyaLakshmi, GajaLakshmi, VeeraLakshmi, VijayaLakshmi, SanthanaLakshmi and MahaLakshmi. The temple has eight shrines dedicated to each of the eight forms of lakshmi which are arranged in a clockwise direction and then a ninth shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi.
